Bailei na Curva – The Film

THE MOST SUCCESSFUL PLAY IN THE HISTORY OF RIO GRANDE DO SUL WILL BE A FILM

The play “Bailei na Curva” premiered at Teatro do IPE on October 1, 1983, in Porto Alegre, becoming the first theatrical production in Rio Grande do Sul to be performed at the renovated Theatro São Pedro in 1984. Over the last 40 years, this play has been on display for annual seasons, celebrating its thousandth performance in April 2004 and scheduling the 2000th performance to commemorate its 40th anniversary. With more than 400 thousand estimated spectators, the play has already been performed in all states of Brazil, including multiple performances in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, as well as an international production at the Festival of Iberian Expression in Portugal, directed by Júlio Conte.

The text reveals the intimacy of a Brazil that cannot be forgotten or repeated, so much so that it is constantly used in History classes and discussed in schools. As it is an iconic piece, which moved several generations, boosted many artistic careers and continues to be staged, amateurly and professionally, throughout the country.

Prana Filmes will produce Bailei na Curva – O Filme, an ambitious project that has everything it needs to combine high artistic quality and commercial appeal. The copyright for the piece has already been negotiated, as has the use of the song Horizontes. The cinematographic script is written by Julio Conte, one of the authors of the play and current director of its productions, and Carlos Gerbase, screenwriter and director of several feature films, with emphasis on the direction of Verdes Anos, one of the biggest hits in history of Gaucho cinema. It will be directed by Zeca Brito, director of eight feature films, including Legalidade, with a long career in Brazil and abroad. It will be produced by Luciana Tomasi, whose CV includes, among others, the films Tolerance, The Man Who Copied, Yonlu and The Pink Cloud.
